Welcome to my little home on the Internet! If you were in my actual house, Iβd offer you a drink and start raiding the pantry for snacks so we dive into the deep stuff (Iβm not great at small talk). My internet home isnβt much differentβthereβs food to savor and words to mull over about Scripture, family, and living your everyday life with joy and endurance.

On Cows, Chaos, and Learning to Take a Break
I read recently about how thousands of cattle in Kansas died due to heat stress. They didnβt die from one day of hot temperatures, necessarily. But the persistent extreme heat and humidity that hit many parts of the countryβparticularly this one region in Kansasβwreaked havoc on herds.
Cattle can usually adapt to the summer heat. Studies show theyβre resilient animals, but as one article told me, when there are multiple stressors involved, the animal struggles to cope. Not only that, but cattle need the lower nighttime temperatures to bring their internal temperature down. When nighttime temps are too high, they donβt release enough of their internal heat, and it continues to build and build and build, causing major problems when that cycle persists. Eventually, they canβt carry the cumulative heat load built up in their bodies. βRight now, if we donβt have night-time cooling hours, the animal wonβt be starting each day at thermo-neutral, so theyβre more at risk on the second or third day,β one veterinarian said.
Okay, letβs acknowledge the elephant (cow?) in the room. Yes, Iβm about to compare us to cattle. My metaphor obviously breaks down pretty quickly, but bear with meβ¦
Sheet Pan Balsamic Salmon with Roasted Tomatoes + Green Beans [and learning to rest in the chaos]
Happy Monday! I donβt always enjoy Mondays, but Iβm excited for a fresh start this week. Last week was a doozy: stomach bugs, loads of laundry, a family diet consisting of bananas, applesauce, and rice, and lots of time shampooing carpets. Thankfully, though, everyoneβs healthy again, and my carpets are cleaner than theyβve been since we moved in six years ago.
